Microneedling

SkinPen microneedling is a minimally invasive skincare treatment that uses a medical-grade device to create tiny, controlled punctures (micro-injuries) in the skin’s surface. The purpose of these tiny needle pricks is to stimulate the body's natural healing process, leading to the production of collagen and elastin, two key proteins responsible for skin strength, elasticity, and overall texture.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Procedure: A trained professional uses the SkinPen device, which has fine needles (usually ranging from 0.25mm to 2.5mm in length), to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. The depth of the needles can be adjusted depending on the skin condition being treated (e.g., fine lines, acne scars, wrinkles).

  2. Stimulating Healing: The skin reacts to the controlled injuries by producing more collagen and elastin as part of the natural healing process. This can help to repair skin damage and improve its appearance over time.

  3. Post-Treatment: After the procedure, the skin might appear slightly red and feel like a mild sunburn, but this typically subsides in a few hours to a day. Some people may experience slight swelling or dryness.

Benefits of SkinPen Microneedling:

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles

  • Improves skin texture and tone

  • Treats acne scars and other scarring

  • Minimizes pore size

  • Can improve the effectiveness of skincare products as the microneedling process helps products penetrate deeper into the skin.

Who’s a Good Candidate?

SkinPen microneedling works for most skin types and tones, but it’s particularly beneficial for individuals with acne scars, uneven texture, or fine lines. It's also generally safe for those with darker skin tones, which can be a concern with some other types of skin treatments.

How Many Treatments are Needed?

Results can often be seen after just one treatment, but typically, a series of 3–6 treatments (spaced 4–6 weeks apart) is recommended for optimal results.

It’s a popular option because it's relatively quick, requires little downtime, and can lead to noticeable improvements in skin appearance over time. However, as with any procedure, it's essential to consult with a qualified professional to see if it's the right option for your skin concerns.
